CAT TOOLS
As a translation service provider certified in accordance with ÖNORM EN 15038, it goes without saying that we use the latest technology and methods. This includes the use of CAT tools including SDL Trados Studio 2009 which is among the most modern translation management systems worldwide and operates using a workflow in accordance with EN 15038.
Computer-aided translation programmes, also known as Computer Aided Translation tools, operate using a data bank (Translation Memory) which saves completed translations. CAT tools should not be confused with ma- chine or automatic translations! The process begins with an empty Translation Memory in which the source text and corresponding translation is saved in dual-language segments. These segments are then available for use in subsequent translations. As a rule, one segment normally equates to one sentence.
CAT tool applications
CAT tools are best applicable in software localisation and the translation of technical manuals, but are also useful when translation tourism and legal texts with frequent repetitions. In order to use a CAT tool, you first require a source document which can be electronically edited e.g. a Word document.
